YOUTH VOLUNTEER
PROGRAM
United We Age arranges for high school students to participate in intergenerational activities at
senior living facilities. We match student volunteers with residents to form friendships.
Volunteers commit to visiting a senior living facility at least twice a month for a minimum of
three to six months, depending on the number of hours.

Why Volunteer with Seniors?
For Students:
-
Gain volunteer hours for college applications and extracurriculars.
-
Learn about aging, resilience, and life wisdom from seniors.
-
Develop communication and leadership skills.
-
Make a lasting impact on an elder’s life
For Seniors:
-
Combat loneliness and isolation.
-
Feel a renewed sense of purpose and joy.
-
Engage in fun, interactive activities with students.
-
Reduce stress, depression, and anxiety through socialization.
Benefits
The program benefits both students and senior citizen residents. Students learn about how older adults cope with aging. The relationship they develop with an older person is priceless.

Students also receive credit for volunteering for a nonprofit organization, bolstering their extracurricular activities as they apply for college.
The program is a giving experience to make an older person’s life more special. Social interaction with students promote a sense of purpose and may reduce feelings of depression andanxiety.
